    No. No. No.

Comparing Android vs. iOS : fine

But why the arbitrary distinction of "phones". It's an OS that can be run on multiple devices. Do you compare Mac laptop share vs. Windows laptop share? (In any meaningful context, that is)?

Phones are different. Regarding your example you can have "anything vs anything" so sure Mac Laptop share can be compared to windows laptop share. Just as Windows desktop share can be compared to Linux Desktop share.

Sure we are talking OS here, but without the hardware.. the OS doesnt mean anything and vice versa.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble... but I don't believe this is a US phone. My iPhone 3gs has been on t-mobile for almost 2 years now... ...because that's the standard carrier in the Netherlands...

The +1 before the phone number definitely lends to the probability that it's intended for foreign use.

I can send a screenshot of both my and my gf's phones that clearly say: T-Mobile 3G on them... :D

And the N94 part number denoting an entirely separate model?

Yay sold the iPad tonight! So officially buying one tomorrow.

I'm going to try to go to Brea around 8:30. You think that is early enough?

Also, Brea my best bet or other stores have less people/more inventory?

But I think the biggest advantage is that it would be very very simple to adjust the interface to dial phonenumbers, type text messages, and so on. In other words: the iPhone would be within handreach, and it would not require dozens of buttons added to interface (eg via a dock connector like the FM radio) I believe this was planned for 2006

This is what I thought when I saw the report on the Apple patents for the different interfaces (number pad, 4-way "cross" control, iPod controls, etc.). What if those "alternative" controls were actually all "displayed" controls on a none-touch screen, and Apple is planning on making this device your iPod, your cell phone, and your gaming machine? Depending on what you select, the proper controls will appear.

We know Apple was looking to hire a game programmer for the iPod. We think Apple's working on a cell phone based on comments made at the last financials meeting. We saw the patents for the various control interfaces, coincidentally all being shown on the same form factor.

My concerns are cost(how in the world could Apple make such a device that's also affordable) and simplicity(most iPod reviewers seem to come to the conclusion that it's the iPod simplicity that's the key to its success). Adding all these features seems very un-Apple and could make the device rather confusing and cumbersome.

Why on earth would this happen? Why would they edit it to include the ix.Mac.MarketingName? I don't understand. Is there any logical explanation? I don't think it is a typo because I don't think Apple is stupid enough to edit it just in order to put a typo in. Weird.

Its humans at work - probably a human clicked a wrong button that added this thing with some placeholder name ... most likely means nothing or if anything than updated appleTV to run apps.

Universal MacOS/iOS apps just don't make sense (controlling the apps is just too different) and a apple branded TV makes no sense (appleTV does the trick for this and that way you don't have to buy an expensive TV to get the latest hardware - you just add it to the TV of your choice)

If I wanted a physical calendar and all that entails - torn off pages etc. I'd buy one, but I'm working on a computer. First impressions are that this is naff. It reminds me of the overblown animations when arrange by name is selected and I rename a file on the desktop. It's all a bit too cutesy and look at me. Turd brown leather is not my idea of stylish but YMMV. Please may there be an option to switch it off for those of us easily offended by gratuitous eye-candy.

Show me where Apple calls Pages a consumer app (http://www.apple.com/iwork/pages/).

Oh come on at least give the guy something!

It is common knowledge that Apple markets two principle lines.

The consumer line which used to be prefaced by an "i". iWork, iLife, iBook, iPod, etc.

And the Pro line which used to be prefaced by power or Pro . Ex: PowerBook, PowerMac, Final Cut Pro. etc.

I am also sure that if you review the introduction of Pages at MacWorld it was intended to compete as a consumer product and not a replacement for Word by Steve Jobs. He is always very careful about how he phrases things so that he doesn't upset, MS or Adobe, when they come out with these apps.

    It is nothing.

    I mean that literally.

There is no fourth product line.

This is simply a bug where the store is trying to look up a product name by key and the product doesn't exist.

Someone set the product list size one greater than it should be, causing the list to include an extra item. But since there is no device category, looking up the MarketingName for that device category fails.

    I can read Wiki too...

GPL is a license. GNU is a foundation. I corrected as to the licensing terminology..

Per your 12 years, trump - my 25...

By the way - openstep is an evolution of nextstep when next went "open source". it may of been put of the GNU license, but it wasnt there back in 1984 when it all started... Per Saiman, If you know WHY he left MIT in the first place (after all you might want to read the whole wiki), youd know what was going through his mind in the creation of GNU.

Lastly, the Minix kernel came from Posix. So the path Posix->Minix->Linux is valid.

Seriously, why not an Imac with touch-screen right now? Will we need to wait for the next iMac update to see this technology implemented?

Apple is surely working on it:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/7961480/Apple-files-iMac-touch-patent.html

And, besides that, OS X Lion will be 100% focused on touch technology... and were not talking about an Ipad OS...

Are you planning on nursing your iMac in your lap?

Apples moving forward, kind of neat after all the years of stagnation. 2 Big updates in 1 year vs a minor hiccup after 1 year. This is good stuff.

    LOL!

In all seriousness...it'd be a hoot if they hired Emilio Estevez. Can you imagine the intra-family squabble that might set up?? :D

He already appeared in the show. Played an old friend of Charlie's who drops dead, prompting Charlie to rethink his own lifestyle. Perhaps that storyline was drawn from real life.

Wow, amazing how emotional people always get whenever I make a statement that could sound slightly anti-iPod... I know you love your iPod and all (I am very fond of mine myself), but over the last few years Apple has been focusing a dispropotional amount of energy into their cute little gadget which has massively boosted their profits. For those of us that don't salivate over all things iPod, I think this is too bad.

    That is all.

I don't even *own* an iPod, but I still think you're off base and aren't seeing the big picture. Thank goodness the people that run Apple don't think like you. Apple is focusing on these gadgets (iPod, Airport/AirTunes, iTV, iPhone) that aren't even Mac-centric, because they are *immensely* adding to Apple's reputation for innovation, style, and ease-of-use. These are attributes that translate directly to marketing the Mac. The iPod halo effect has been slow in coming but it *is* real. And it's soon to be followed by the iTV and iPhone halo effect. I think Apple will continue to make gains in the home market with their MacBooks. And maybe the iTV will help the Mac Mini take off as a media center computer. iMacs and Mac/Book Pros are always going to be a tougher sell because of their higher cost. But it's Apple's success in the broader consumer market that is allowing it to also stay in the niche high-end computer market...

well, im only 17 and .223 is just to expensive for me to shoot...

and I dont know why I like the sig so much, I was at gander mountain the other day, and was feeling out all of the other .22's and it just feels the best to me...

it's going to be ether the sig, or the smith and wesson M&P 15-22. that is a nice gun also...

The .223 is pretty cheap to shoot if you buy bulk ammo. You can get 500 rounds for less than $150.

well there you have it apple: in this day and age sueing somebody over patents who has more than you might not always be the smartest idea

fact is: between those big cooperations it has become usual practice to let a certain amount of patent abuse slide since it profits all sides if technology can be used by more, and it also helps adoptions rates (famous example: IBM and their countless PC hardware related patents)

Now I undertand that building this sort of infrastructure costs money and thus it is logical to assume that they would want to recoup some if not all of that investment. However, why would I want to stream music to my phone when I already have music on my phone?

I agree. It would make much more sense for VIDEO.
